Featured Program

In August 2019, we had the distinct pleasure of curating the 42nd International Education Conference of the National Assn of Black Social Workers across three Australian cities: Syndey, Melbourne, and Uluru, over 15 days.

The theme: "Colonialism, Resistance and Reconciliation" embodied NABSW’s unique mission to explore African and Indigenous influences and experiences inherent in other countries that are often ignored in most other travel conference experiences.

Workshops relevant to the field of Social Work conducted by experts from Australia's leading organizations explored issues related to colonialism, resistance, Indigenous rights, national reconciliation efforts, and more.  Tours and excursions offered rare insight into the people, the land, the rituals, and Indigenous Rights Movements, as well as issues related to the Black immigrant communities in Australia.

Fifty (50) people participated in the main conference held in Sydney and Melbourne. Thirty people continued on to the extension program held in the Outback town of Uluru, sacred land of the Aboriginal people, to connect with the sacred expressions, beliefs and experiences of the Indigenous people.

Client Reviews

Thank you for an amazing experience.  We were able to fundraise substantially from the trip, bump up our annual membership levels, and deliver a top-quality trip to tour-goers.  Diaspora Travel gave access to Cuba to our constituents, many of whom had dreamed of visiting for years, but not had the ability to do so on their own. We made friends of the PRC for life thanks to this trip.

As an institution, we solidified relationships with architectural experts and professionals in Caribbean studies, which will further our own mission of protecting the architectural heritage of the northernmost Caribbean city- New Orleans. This was an invaluable opportunity.
